Hello! My name is Alise Burns, I am 31 years old, a wife to my husband Ryan and a first time mother to my son Ezra. In 2019 I went for an eye exam to receive a new prescription. The contacts would come in, I'd try them on, and I couldn't see out of my left eye! We'd do another eye exam and my prescription would change. This process repeated several times and finally I was diagnosed with an eye condition called Keratoconus. Keratoconus is characterized by the thinning of the cornea and irregularities of the cornea's surface, resulting in vision loss. Keratoconus is a condition that is progressive. Since 2019 my left eye prescription has changed from -3.25 to now -7.25. The bulging of my cornea has increased to a point that I cannot see out of my left eye even when corrected with glasses or contacts. When I was diagnosed it was highly recommended to have an eye surgery called Corneal Cross Linking. This surgery strengthens and reinforces the cornea, which keeps the keratoconus from progressing further. At the time, I was unable to afford this surgery, looking back, I wish I would have had it done then as it would have prevented further vision loss. At my most recent eye exam I was referred to a cornea specialist and it was made clear to me that if I do not have this surgery done soon I could be at risk to losing my sight entirely in my left eye and needing a full cornea transplant. As much as I do not like asking for help, I really do not want to lose my vision. I want to be able to see my beautiful son grow up through both of my eyes! This surgery in total is a $6,500 procedure. Funds for us as a family have been very tight since the birth of our son and we also have current debt we are working on paying off. We would first and foremost appreciate any and ALL prayers during this time, and if you are able to donate anything towards this surgery it would be such a blessing for us! We know God has been so faithful to us in the past and will bring us through this just like He has before! We love you and thank you for reading, supporting, praying and loving us.
