Help Joshua beat Cancer

Most everyone that knows Joshua, is aware of the struggles he has faced over the years with Nuerofibromatosis. While he has dealt with the effects of multiple tumors, all of his life, the tumor along his face and neck started to grow rapidly over the past several months. This led to multiple tests at UAB and the news that none of us were prepared for. The doctors informed him that this tumor, that had always been benign, had now turned to cancer, which only occurs in 3-5% of NF patients. There are no physicians, in the state of Georgia, that treat adults with NF  so his care would have to be a coordinated effort between NF doctors in Alabama and oncologists in Atlanta. Joshua was admitted to the hospital on January 26th, for what should have been a 10 hour surgery to remove the tumor and complete reconstruction. Four hours in, the doctor called to tell us that they had removed the tumor but they could not continue with the surgery because Joshua had lost too much blood. It wouldn’t be safe and they were trying to stabilize him at that point. He was given 16 units of blood and sent to the ICU.  Over the course of 3 weeks, he has had 4 surgeries and faced multiple challenges and complications. 

Joshua still has a long road ahead of him. Once he is able to go home, he will have 6 weeks of  radiation, 5 days a week. Based on the location of the cancer, he will have to go through several dental procedures  that are not covered by insurance so the funds raised will help to cover those treatments. 

We have seen God’s hand at work in this situation and we are so grateful for all of your prayers. We are so appreciative of everyone’s support and it means so much to Joshua to see how loved he is.
