Hi. My name is Connie Dove. Last Thursday I found this pup (estimated to be 4-5 months old) on the side of the road in a rural area of Deland, FL. He was unable to move but alert. My first thought was he was victim of a hit&run. I brought him to our local humane society to scan for a microchip and spent the following three days alerting everyone, and in search of his owner. All of the shelters and local pitbull rescues are at capacity so we had him vetted to best understand the extent of the injuries and get him on painkillers. Blu, as we’ve come to name him, has two broken femurs, a badly damaged hip and a big hematoma on his head. The vet suggested if he had been hit, he should have signs of internal injuries. Our best guess is that he was thrown from a vehicle, landing very hard on his rear quarters, perhaps tumbling over a rock. In the few days since, we hear that at least one other pittie also was abandoned in the vicinity.

Blu is comfortable now, but will need surgery and extensive rehab. And while No dog deserves the cards he’s been dealt, as we’ve come to know Blu, we feel he’s quite special and once healed will be a great furball addition to any family.

Blu is a kisser, gentle with treats, and shows absolutely zero sign of aggression-and I have four rescue dogs that have tested him! He tells me when he needs to go out because I have to transport him with a sling. He is seemingly healthy otherwise, loves all people (but esp my husband), and tho he’s struggling, he is stoic. He never cries.

We’ve come to love him and believe that he has an amazing, whole and healthy future. To that end, we have engaged with a rescue who may assist with his surgery and adoption if I commit to fostering him thru his post-surgery healing.

We could use every bit of help. The surgery alone will cost upwards of $5000, the rehab costs are yet to be determined. Every $5 contribution counts.
