Please Help Me Save My Family Home
Hi, my name is Rosalie Durante, and I never thought I’d be writing something like this. But right now, I’m scared and out of options—and I’m asking for help to save my home.
I’m 30 years old, from Brooklyn, New York. I work as a high school English teacher, a tutor, and a dog walker. I’ve always tried to work hard, stay strong, and take care of my family. But despite all my effort, I can’t do this one on my own.
My mother and I live in the same house my grandparents bought when my mom was just five years old. This home has been the heartbeat of our family for generations. My grandfather, a proud Navy veteran, worked three jobs after his service to make sure his family always had a home. He fought through every struggle, and he never gave up on this house. It’s where he and my grandmother raised my mom, and where I grew up too. Every inch of this place holds memories, love, and history that can’t be replaced.
Now, my mother is 67 and retired. She has given everything she’s ever had to keep this house—her entire retirement, her savings, her peace of mind. And I’ve been fighting alongside her, working multiple jobs, trying to keep us afloat. We’ve managed to pay almost all of the $80,000 balance on the mortgage. We only have $7,500 left to go.
We’ve already been granted three extensions, but now the bank has said no more. We’ve been given a final deadline of December 15th to pay what’s left—or we lose our home.
I’ve applied for loans, reached out to every possible resource, and asked for help everywhere I could think of. But doors keep closing. I’ve emptied every bit of savings I had. My mom has given everything she’s worked for her entire life. And now, all that’s left is me trying to hold us together through this last stretch.
This isn’t just a house—it’s my mother’s life, my childhood, our family’s story. Losing it would mean losing the one piece of stability we have left. I just want to give her the peace and safety she deserves after spending her whole life giving to everyone else.
If you’re able to help—it would mean the world to us. Every dollar raised will go directly toward the mortgage to stop the foreclosure and keep our home.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading this, for caring, and for giving us hope when we need it most.
With all my love and gratitude,
Rosalie
