Starman Stan Needs Our Help Now

Stan Seeberg, proud founder of Vancouver Sidewalk Astronomers, telescope and meteorite aficionado, and friend to everyone he meets lost his “beloved Jan”, his soul mate and life partner of 41 years in February. He is learning to live alone again and still loves his greeter job at Walmart where “every day is a great day”.
Unfortunately, Stan recently fell and broke his ankle in two places and is currently recuperating at Fort Vancouver Convalescent Center. Word is still out on if he will need surgery. He will be off work for a month or two with little money coming in.
Before Stan can return home, an extensive repair and remodel job will have to be completed on his bathroom. His current tub/shower unit is damaged and has been leaking water into the walls for a while. There has been a long-undetected leak under the bathroom sink also. The floor is starting to sag and break through from water damage and there are no safety/grab bars in or around his shower or commode.
We would like to replace the tub/shower with a walk-in shower stall with all safety amenities and ensure that the bathroom is safe from rot and mold, etc. I am canvassing friends/acquaintances skilled in carpentry for help in renovating the bathroom, and hope to get started (and finished) in the next three-four weeks before Stan is discharged.
Stan is a very proud man and won’t ask for help. He has been talking about taking money out of his 401K to fix his bathroom. I do not think that Stan should have to take money from his small retirement fund because I know that everybody who knows Stan (and/or knew Jan) would be happy to help in any way that they could. We have set our fundraising goal at $20,000 just so we can get the fundraising started until we can get a better estimate on the costs for the project. As we move forward, that goal will be revised (hopefully downward).
We would like to keep this fundraising effort under wraps for now and surprise Stan with his new bathroom upon his return home. Any help at all (financial, labor, materials, advice, prayers, etc.) will be so greatly appreciated.
