Cancer treatment

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I pray this letter finds you well. I would like to apologize in advance for daring to write this letter to you and thank you for taking the time to read it. I am very aware of the situation that we are all facing due to this Covid–19 pandemic. Right now, I am experiencing serious health problems and like many of you, I have been unemployed for over a month. For about six months, I had been feeling very ill, which led me to visit my primary care doctor. Per his request, he ordered for me to take some laboratory tests, where they found my enlarged prostate and found that my Prostate Specific Antigen or PSA (11.4) very high. However, I knew I needed to get a second opinion and went to another doctor who performed the same blood tests, and again the results came back with an elevated PSA. Therefore, both doctors suggested that I visit a urologist for further testing. Finally, on March 3 of this year, I was treated by the urologist, Dr. Holden of the Urology Clinics of North Texas, who after doing some more tests, suggested that I have a prostate biopsy done, which was done on March 12. Subsequently, on March 19 we met with the urologist for the final diagnosis of the biopsy, and unfortunately, they found cancer in the prostate. Dr. Holden then referred me to Dr. Benaim, a prostate surgeon who examined me again to confirm the opinion of the previous urologist, and after analyzing different types of procedures Dr. Benaim recommended the removal of the prostate by robotic surgery. Unfortunately, I don't have health insurance, which means the surgery could cost between $35,000 to $40,000 plus the postoperative care (i.e. post treatments, radiation, medication, follow–ups). Because of the expenses surpassing what I can afford, Dr. Benaim suggested that I have the surgery in Colombia, my home country. We have been doing all the research and finding out costs in Bogotá, Colombia for the same surgery, and it will end up costing me around $15,000.

After carefully analyzing my health situation and our current financial situation, we have concluded that the best option without a doubt is to have surgery in Colombia, where I will also be in the care of my family there.

However, I am coming to you to ask for some of your financial help to help cover the medical expenses and the things that this would entail.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for your mercy and generosity. I really appreciate any help you can offer me, and I know the Lord will know how to reward you abundantly.

Matthew 25:40 (ESV)

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

Attached you will find some documents and statements that will corroborate my current health situation.

In Christ,

Carlos Aragon
