A New Home for Cathy Gould

Donation protected
Update as of today, November 8, 2016

Dear Friends,

After living with her friend for several months, another change has occured. Her hosts are selling their house because they need to help with some changes in their own family.

There will certainly be new expenses with moving and storage that we didn't expect would come until she was to move into subsidized housing.

Right now the first thing is to get a new scooter, since the old one is totaled. After that she hopes to use Lyft to get out and look at apartments.

Please share this post and her site with friends and family. Again, I thank each of you for your kindness and support of Cathy Gould.

Help Get Cathy Gould Into a New Home

For those of you who don't know me, I am a friend of Cathy and have been since 1966.

Cathy suffers from a variety of medical problems, primarily MS, which prevents her from being able to walk without aid, is causing her to lose her sight, and she needs aid to simply move around and take care of her personal needs.

I posted earier that her family had not helped her but that was incorrect.  They have helped, especially her father, since Cathy moved to Dallas.  The rest of her family has helped as much as they feel they can, but now have their own health issues, parents and in-laws aging, kids in college, etc.

Cathy's social worker has talked to others at agencies all over North Texas, and has learned what is a basic fact:  that there are no places available which are less than her total disability check of $812.00.  She needs to find a garage apt or "living quarters".  It must be on ground level to allow for wheelchair and scooter access, or hae an elevator.  It needs to be on a bus line for her home health care givers.  There are other things, but these are the basics.

If a place can be found,  she can pay up to $500, but she would need another $200- $300 for rent., so it would be $2400 to $3600 a year.  This could be a less daunting goal than $10,000 but our hope is to raise as much of the goal as we can.  Cathy will also need people who can take her around to look at places and interview with potential landlords.

I'm reaching out to you, her very real family, our community  of artists, writers, and musicians who share a common bond:  our love for this gentle soul.

Since she told me of this dire situation, it has been very difficult to move forward.  Time is running out!  Cathy will face eviction from her current digs on January 31!  If unable to get her settled into low income public housing, the purpose of this gofundme account is  to help pay for a year's worth of rent and utilities in another location whiile she waits for a vacancy to open up.  Below is her post from November 2015.

Help, PLEASE?
The apartment I've lived in for 16 years has been sold. They want all us old folks OUT! They've closed the indoor pool & outdoor, canceled all the grocery runs and activities, and worse.  I may need to move twice; first somewhere near here but cheap, to wait until I can get into some HUD Sr housing that would be flexible to my income ($812 /month, under $10k total.
We have to move by the end of January....! None of us have much money, and I can't get Google (or any other search) to understand my request. ANY information or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I REALLY don't want to go to a nursing home yet.

Please share this with your friends and keep it going. Every bit helps, and even if you have no money, please send prayers and good thoughts her way.
