Support Amaya’s Dream: Help Fund Bridge Program
Donation protected
Amaya has recently graduated high school and has committed to a great HBCU college across the country from home. After tirelessly fighting a giant school district as a junior high student; facing discrimination, speaking out at press and community conferences and school board meetings, receiving threats and more to ensure things improved for all students in the district you seek change. With the help of the community, great change happened resulting in policy changes, diversity curriculum changes, diversity hiring practices changes, mandatory D&I training for teachers and students annually Needless to say, Amaya is ready to immerse herself in environments where her culture is celebrated. She is motivated and focused to pursue a degree in Biology & Pre-Law with aspirations to be a medical malpractice attorney. A dedicated student athlete, Amaya’s discipline has permitted her to play for club, school and travel basketball teams while being an Honors & International Baccalaureate student who takes her education seriously. She has also accumulated hours of volunteer hours with local food banks, food drives, and events hosted in her hometown. Amaya was accepted late into the pre-college program at her school, which starts on June 15th. It’s important for her to attend this program as she is not familiar with Virginia and would like to meet her peers so relocation from home won’t be so hard when it’s time to start school in August. The costs of the program, airfare, supplies is in excess of $5000. Too often our kids work hard as hell to qualify for programs, but it's the costs that keep us out the door. Instead of her giving up and thinking this isn’t an opportunity she can afford to experience, I wanted to show her that it is, because together we can go all the way. Why not try to help someone in our community achieve the dreams they worked hard for? So that is EXACTLY what I am doing. All donations will be going towards Amaya’s costs for her trip and pre-college program. If she should receive an overflow, she will be using those funds for supplies and items needed while attending college. Thank you for considering your donation.
