Hello everyone, a long time friend and colleague of mine's wife was diagnosed with leukemia a few days prior to Christmas 2025, which has caused their family severe emotional and financial difficulties and we ask for your help and prayers.
Please read their story below:

Help Lori Lafleur beat cancer.

We are reaching out to share Lori Lafleur’s story and ask for your support as she fights her most difficult battle yet.

Lori is a strong, vibrant, and caring person who has spent her life putting others first. A dedicated wife of 35 years, mother, and grandmother, she has always been a pillar of strength for her family. She met and fell in love with her husband during their senior year of high school and within two years, she was a Navy wife and already starting a family.

Up until about 4 years ago, she had been working as a Paralegal for close to 15 years, but when the company decided to close their internal legal department, they singled her out as someone they would like to have stay on. They valued her work ethic and quality of work enough that they crafted a new position in the company specifically for her.

This last December she got the shock of her life that not even her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in 1998 would rival. On December 23rd after a routine blood draw at the doctor’s office, she was called and told to immediately go to the emergency room. After more tests, it was determined that 90% of her white blood cells were cancerous and she was given the diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia and admitted to the hospital for immediate chemotherapy treatment.

Her first round of chemo, thankfully, was very effective, as it successfully reduced her cancerous blood cell count from 90% to 20%. She is currently in her second round of chemo and will undergo a bone marrow biopsy to determine the effectiveness of round two. There is a likelihood of another round of chemo prior to her scheduled bone marrow transplant currently planned for the beginning of May. The bone marrow transplant will see her admitted again to the hospital for another 30 days, followed by a mandatory temporary move closer to the Portland area for 3 months to allow for close monitoring.

Needless to say, this serious health crisis has shaken her entire family and severely impacted her ability to work. She has been on medical leave since late December 2025 and will likely not return to work until at the earliest September 2026. There are insurance continuity issues that will need to be addressed in the short term as well as solutions needed for long term supplemental income as her available PTO has been exhausted along with her State supplied coverage.

The family is facing overwhelming financial challenges due to ongoing insurance issues, medical expenses not fully covered by insurance, the loss of income, and the upcoming costs associated with her relocation for post-transplant care. Any financial assistance received would help ease this burden by going toward essential household bills, the mortgage, and the necessary expenses related to her post-transplant recovery and temporary relocation.

Your kindness, prayers and support are fuel and energy to the family and are appreciated beyond measure
