Bringing Georgie Home

Donation protected
On June 6, 2020  George Colvin was critically injured in an accident caused by a semi-truck driver who attempted an illegal U-turn on an interstate highway.  My brother is a cross-country truck driver as well and he was unable to stop his semi before it hit the turning semi at an impact of 80 MPH.  This impact caused George's semi to roll onto its side and then skid approximately 50 feet before coming to a stop.  The force of the collision and subsequent tipping caused substantial bruising to George's lungs, as well as extensive damage to his left arm requiring multiple surgeries and a skin graft.
Initially we were not sure from day to day if he was even going to survive as a result of his injuries or if he would even have use of his left arm.  He has now been on a ventilator/breathing machine for over a month and had to undergo a tracheostomy placement in an attempt to encourage his lungs to start functioning on their own again.
The accident was in Utah and George has been receiving his top-notch care in a regional hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.  The majority of his family is in Ohio and it is our intent to have him complete his recovery and rehab back here with us so that he is surrounded and supported by the many people who love him. It has been anticipated by his doctors that this journey to recovery could take several months, if not years.
This GoFundMe is set up to help in George with any financial needs during this process.  It will be applied to help with loss of wages, transportation to Ohio when he is in stable condition, primary residence expenses at his home in Texas, or any other unforeseen expenses along the way.  I find it difficult to describe the severity of the obstacles I have seen him overcome already in this journey, but he is definitely one of the strongest people I know.  One day in particular, when we were at the brink of possibly losing him and were very tearful, one of his doctors said "I'm not giving up on him yet- if he's fighting, I'm fighting".  And this is now where I find myself, asking for your help.   The support everyone has shown thus far has been amazing and our family will forever remember the love  and prayers that surrounded us during this horrific and and yet miraculous time.  He has beaten the odds in ways that truly amaze me but now is in need of any help anyone is willing to give.  His journey to recovery is going to be very tedious, but I have full faith that he has it in him to come back from this.  So if he's fighting.....I'm fighting.
