Hello,

My name is Thomas Arsenault and I am raising money to help pay for the medical costs for a LVAD (left ventricle assist device) as well as the potential heart transplant for me. I am 59 years old, married for 35 years with three children. I am currently on disability and my wife is unable to work full time because she takes care of me.

I found out yesterday that it is the intention of the University of Virginia to install the LVAD in me sometime in January providing I do not have any further setbacks. I have had 8 heart attacks, a triple bypass and my heart functions through a pacemaker. I have been told I have around 10% heart pumping function.

The money, should any be raised will help pay for the out of pocket expenses I will occur as a result of the LVAD and heart transplant. Since my only source of income is my disability, I have no additional means to pay these fees.

I will not know the exact costs of everything until it occurs.

I want to continue to help other people in my life and to live long enough to see grandchildren. I have never asked for any assistance for anything in my life. I firmly believe in working for everything myself, but with all the previous medical issues over the past few years has taken everything I have. My biggest fear is should anything happen to me my wife will be burdened with this and since I am basically uninsurable other than medicare, there will be nothing to assist her.
