My name is Tracy and thank you for taking a moment to read about my beautiful rescue greyhound, Joey. On April 30th, my active, wiggly, little girl all but stopped eating and drinking. No matter what I tried, she took very little and what she did take, she couldn't keep down. By Saturday May 7th my sweet girl wouldn't get up, wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink and lost six pounds.
I took her to the vet for the first time on May 2nd and since there wasn't an obvious cause, ten days of vet appointments, in-patient care and testing began.
It was very hard for her and painful to watch. In the last week my sweet girl has had multiple vet appointments, an endoscopy, a barium study, many x-rays, days of IV fluids, biopsies, multiple medications and lab tests; some at her regular vet and some during her four day in-patient stay at Northstar Vets (a regional emergency, trauma, and specialty center).
I took her home today and while she still seems fragile to me, she is eating and drinking, keeping her food down and even getting some of her wiggle back :) What happened is still unclear but her biopsy results are still pending. I will have to face that soon.
I would be grateful for any help you can give because this weeks bills already exceed $4,200. She still needs follow-up care, medicines, and a special diet for at least a while.
Normally, I would take care of these bills myself but Joey is my second greyhound, my first one is Ventura and he has considerable medical costs as well related to an injury he suffered on the track. I have had him since 2011 and his bills have averaged several hundred dollars a month, every month I've had him. Somehow I've been able to manage Ventura's care but I don't know how I will manage two dogs with high medical costs.
Every penny donated will go towards Joey's medical bills.
Racing greyhound's deserve a healthy, happy retirement and that is my wish for Joey. I will be forever grateful to everyone who can help me give this to her.
