Saint John – and friends near and far – we HIT OUR GOAL of $30,000! Your generosity is staggering. Over the last several months supporters of Reham’s family have donated nearly $20,000. Just three days ago Reham asked you, her community at large, to help her finish this part of the journey. In less than two days you, Reham’s supporters far and wide, have donated more than more than $10,000 to change the lives of an entire family. Because of you, Reham’s dream of being reunited with her family will come true. That means her parents get to watch their grandchildren grow up. Get to hug their daughters after years apart. It means her brothers can start planning their futures. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every one of you!
A bit of background: My name is Kate Wallace and I am a member of a volunteer committee in Saint John, New Brunswick, comprised of friends and supporters of Reham Abazid. We have rallied around this incredible community activist/YMCA Peace Medalist to make her dream of bringing her parents and two brothers to her new hometown of Saint John, N.B., come true. We are so moved by Reham's story – of losing her home and son in the Syrian war, and bravely making a new life in Canada – we've committed to sponsoring her family through Canada's private immigration program. We've already raised two-thirds of the $30,000 needed to bring Reham's family from Jordan, where they are living as refugees. Your donations helped us cross the line with this last $10,000. Your contribution will change the life of this entire family, and further enrich our diverse and welcoming city. This money will be used to cover Reham's parents' and brothers' living expenses for their first year in Canada, including rent, utilities, food, clothing, and medical expenses. We are grateful to have the partnership of RiverCross Church, which is receiving all donations, including those to this GoFundMe campaign. Once Reham's family arrives (likely this spring or summer) RiverCross will transfer the funds to our committee, which will disperse them on a monthly basis to the family during the year of our commitment to support them.
