Georgia's Heart and Lung Transplants
Georgia Minor is asking for your support to raise funds for a heart and lung transplant. She is a resident of Natchez, Mississippi where she has resided all of her life, and is a faithful, active and devoted member of Zion Hill #1 Baptist Church. Georgia is a graduate of South Natchez Adams High School, and also attended Copiah-Lincoln Jr. College in Wesson, Mississippi. Georgia was an employee with Walmart for over 17 years, but due to her illness, she was forced to retire in 2011.
In August of 2010, Georgia passed out while practicing on a tennis court. She had no previous known health issues. After several months of testing, in an effort to determine the cause, she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, a disease that affects the arteries in the lungs and the right side of the heart. Pulmonary Hypertension is a serious, incurable illness that becomes progressively worse and is sometimes fatal. While there is no cure, there are medications available that can help improve the quality of life.
In February, Georgia was informed by her doctors the medications were not working well enough to improve her health, and she was being recommended for both a heart and lung transplant. She is currently participating in a study at Duke University in Durham, NC where she hopes to receive the transplant. The cost for both transplants can run in excess of $1.5 million, and unfortunately insurance will not cover the majority of the expenses. Georgia is asking you to help her raise money assist her with expenses while on her journey to receive her transplants. She travels to appointments almost two hours from home to Jackson, Mississippi several times a month for visits with her Pulmonologist and Cardiologist. She will also be traveling back and forth to Duke University as she continues with the study for the transplants. If the transplants are performed, she will have to remain in Durham for several months after the surgery, and she will have to return for many follow-up visits. Georgia will need assistance with expenses that will incur with travel to and from the airport, parking, flights and lodging.
Georgia is a very spiritual, loving and compassionate person. She has a heart of gold and has always been there for others. She is now in a position where she needs our help. If the love of her family and friends would cure this disease, she would already be back to her normal lifestyle. Unfortunately, that is not possible and she is asking for your support. Please help raise funds for Georgia to receive her heart and lung transplants.
