Hello everyone, we are not usually the kind to ask for money, but unfortunately, this year some stuff has been thrown at us and we are struggling a bit.
Our 9-year-old daughter was born with a cataract in her right eye. Before she was 1, she had to have 2 eye surgeries, and then we had to go through the next 7 years with her wearing a contact in that eye, patching her left eye a few hours a day, and wearing glasses. At seven, she had another surgery, so we were able to get rid of the contact. Through all of it, this girl has smiled through and not let it slow her down.
We finally felt like she was in a good spot; her vision had improved enough to not need to patch anymore, and she was only seeing her doctor every 4-6 months. But about a year ago, her doctor noticed the vision in both of her eyes was starting to decrease.
He ran every test he could think of and sent us to a specialist, but they could not diagnose the cause, and her vision was still decreasing, even in her left eye. He knew he needed help, so he sent us down to Miami to see the best in the field and hopefully get some answers.
They told us that she definitely has some kind of disease causing the loss of vision, but the only way to diagnose it and then try to help would be to get genetic testing done. Once they got that, they would be able to tell us exactly how fast and how bad this could get and see if there are any treatments available.
So we agreed, but come to find out, the lab doesn't accept insurance, so we have to pay out of pocket. They gave us a discount to try and help, but it is still a bill, which is why we are asking for help. We were going to try and work on it a little bit at a time, but the transmission on my truck went out on us, so we are down to one vehicle. Then Christmas is right around the corner, so things have gotten a little tight.
There are helpful tools we have also been made aware of to help her with her loss of sight that we would like to also try and get.
We want to try and find out exactly what we are dealing with so we can prepare to help Emily as much as possible, but we cannot move forward without the tests. So please, if you are able to give anything to help us with it, we would really appreciate it. And if you are not able to, please share and keep our family and Emi
ly in your prayers
