Vytas Gudynas' Medical Expenses
Donation protected
After 10 long months of not knowing what was going on, on April 17th, Vytas Gudynas, 29 years old, had a seizure at work and was rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a brain tumor on his frontal lobe. He went through his first cranial surgery on April 22nd where the doctors were able to remove 85%-90% of the tumor from his frontal lobe. The pathology report came back as an unexpected diagnosis of an Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma Grade 3 with an IDH1 mutation which is treatable and controllable for a longer term. There is no cure, but he will receive chemo and radiation to treat the 10% of the tumor remaining. The remaining 10% is in his Broca area where language is produced. The doctors were obviously not comfortable with removing that portion because he would lose his speech production, so it needs further treatment to control possible spreading.
It is a higher grade Oligodendroglioma tumor and there is unfortunately a chance it comes back and possibly worse if it does come back, but his age, the amount they got out in surgery, and the IDH1 mutation being really receptive to meds are all super good “prognostic” factors.
It will be a long road for Vytas and his family, but our thoughts and prayers are with them through this process. He is a great friend, son, life partner to April, and father to their amazing little two year old boy. It has been a hard diagnosis for the family and we would like to support them in anyway we can. It has been a long 10 months for them with doctors visits, ER visits, psychiatrist visits, and monthly bills. The family is working on trying to find their “new norm.” We want to make them as comfortable as we can during these tough times. They need to focus on recovering, living, and being a family. If we can take one burden off their shoulders; let’s try raising the money to help with their current situations.
