Our precious baby Barhett was born on November 30, 2015 at 12:27 pm. He weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces and was 19 1/4 inches long. A perfect bundle of absolute love. We have been blessed the past 3 months to watch him grow and begin his silly personality. He loved to smile, laugh and talk to you. He was so full of life he hated laying down, he has held his head pretty strongly on his own since the day he was born. On February 16 he learned to sit up almost on his own, after that there was no laying down! At 2.5 months old he was already trying to stand with help. If he wasnt sleeping, he was either sitting up or standing up. His family was beyond proud of the accomplishments he was making. Barhett also got to spend his first sunny day outside with his brother and a few cousins on February 28.
On February 29 his mommy woke up and Barhett had started breathing a little funny. She asked her Mom and Grandma if something was wrong, they had originally thought maybe he was struggling to have a bowel movement but he just didn't look right. 911 was called and when they came Barhett looked to be ok, all vitals were good and they were not concerned. The EMTs also thought he was only constipated. They proceeded to the hospital and when they arrived did a CT scan. This CT scan revealed devastating news.
Our little Bear had significant swelling on his brain. He was life lighted to Motts Childrens Hospital. Upon arriving he went through pokes and tests, although Bear was breathing on his own a breathing tube was put in as a precaution. An MRI was done along with multiple Xrays to see what was wrong.
The tests performed revealed that for an unknown reason, and at an unknown time Barhett lacked oxygen to his brain. At this time we did not know the extent of the damage that had been done or how it would effect Barhett in the future, but we were hopeful that he would pull through and be our amazing little fighter that he had been. We were informed that over the next few days bears brain may continue to swell even taking every precaution we could. He began getting more pokes and tests and many of the steps were unsuccessful. Bears brain and body began working against him and shutting down, we continued to treat and prevent everything that we could.
On March 2nd a repeat exam had been done around 3pm. This exam tested Bears body reflexes and revealed that Barhett had no brain activity. Mom and Dad were informed of this and that the exam would be performed again after 12 hours. Knowing that the news would probably be devastating, family was notified and began to come visit. On March 3rd Around 3:30am the neurologists performed the test again. The test did reveal that there was no brain activity left and even having the ventilator breathing for him he could not exhale on his own.
On March 3rd Barhett Eli Combs was declared to be brain dead. Our little Bear went to be held in the arms of our passed loved ones at 4:46am. Family came throughout the day to say their goodbyes to Barhett. After spending time with him he was taken off the ventilator which was the only thing keeping his body alive. When the machines were turned off he was in the arms of his Mommy and Daddy. They read a story with him in his final moments. Bears heart stopped beating at 11:17am on March 3rd. The lines and tubes were removed and family and friends continued to get to hold him, kiss him and love on him.
Parent's should never have to exist in this world without their children! Please pray for their family at this difficult time but mostly for Barhett's parents. Allicia and Matt have chose cremation but there will be a Memorial held in the near future.
Please find it in your hearts to come together to help with the expenses that come along with the loss of their precious baby boy. Any amount of donation is appreciated more than you know, along with LOTS of prayers!!
Oh, little boy, we looked forward to the day you would be born. But alas, the Lord left us forlorn.
You didn't leave us without a fight. You fought to stay on this Earth with all your might.
You are now resting in the Heavens above, you left surrounded by your family's strong love.
Our arms are now empty, our hearts are so sad, you will always be remembered by your Mom and Dad.
So to God your tiny soul we release. We know that your heart is at eternal peace. -Mary Tetzlaff
