Help Todd Breathe Again

My name is Shaundra and I am needing help with my family's medical bills and our overall financial situation. I totally hate doing this as I know a lot of people are in a tough spot right now, but I am asking for help because I do not know what else to do.

My husband, Todd, was not feeling well on April 29th so I took him to the emergency room. He was admitted and ended up having a double by-pass on May 2nd. Heart surgery went great, but he developed ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) which has a high mortality rate and he was on a vent for 10 days. But Praise God he came off!! (I cannot thank my prayer warriors enough for standing in the gap with me.) He had to learn again all the things we take for granted- to sit, hold his head up, get dressed, bathe, walk. He then got transferred to an acute rehab hospital and finally came home on May 26th! (Away almost a month!)

He is slowly getting better everyday but he is self employed and will be out of work for a good 3 months while he recuperates and gets his strength back. With being on the vent that long, he cannot talk yet so he needs therapy for that as his vocal chords also recuperate. Everything is a whisper but we are believing he will have a mighty shout. He is not cleared to drive yet and has cardio rehab 3xs a week.

I am a mortgage loan officer by trade and everyone knows what the housing industry has been doing this past year. Mine is a commission position so I have not had very much work, therefore not much income. With the care he needs, I am unable to do a 3rd shift position like I was previously doing before all of this happened. I have to keep the mortgage position as that is where our medical insurance is through, but in order to be able to afford any insurance I had to take the one with the HUGE family deductible.

The financial strain is a big burden right now and is starting to hinder his recuperation efforts as it is leading to anxiety. He was not able to breathe with ARDS and now that he has beat that, the financial strain is suffocating us again. Any little bit would help for bills, food, gas to go to all the therapy and follow up appts.

We believe there will come a day when we can pay it forward. We have helped countless others in the past, we just need a little of that help now ourselves.
