On April 1st this year, my dad suffered a terrible accident that left him with a severe spinal cord injury between C3 and C4. Since then, life has completely changed for him and for all of us.

He spent nearly two months in the ICU in Málaga during that time, he underwent a tracheostomy and was unable to talk or move. He then was transferred to Sevilla, where he remained in intensive care for another 1-2 months.

Today, he is thankfully out of ICU. He can now talk again, lift his arms slightly, and even move his legs a little — small but incredible signs of progress. Every bit of recovery is a victory, but the road ahead is long, uncertain, and extremely costly.

Before the accident, my dad was a hardworking family man, the person who was always there to help others. Now, he faces an entirely new reality. His independence has been taken from him overnight.

As many people know — or may not realize — spinal injuries require ongoing physiotherapy, specialized equipment, and adapted technology to restore independence and quality of life. Thanks to Apple’s accessibility features, my dad is already able to use his phone through voice commands to stay in touch with family, which has been a huge lifeline.

I’ve created this GoFundMe (without my dad knowing, as he is a very proud man) to try and lift some of the heavy financial burden off his shoulders. My hope is to be able to “surprise” him with this support, so that he has one less worry when it comes to paying for essential equipment, physiotherapy, or everyday gadgets that can make his life easier.
