This is Chanel, our 11-year-old Shih Tzu. The senior of our bunch and the feisty little heartbeat of our home.

Friday morning, after our normal feeding routine, we had an unexpected accident in our home. We rushed Chanel to the vet for X-rays and discovered she has a comminuted proximal femoral fracture (a severe break in her leg) and is now awaiting surgery.

We covered the X-rays and medications that day, but the specialist’s surgery cost is expected to be significant. We’ve sent all of her records to the specialist and are waiting for a full estimate (expected Monday). In the meantime, Chanel is on pain relief, infection prevention, and anti-inflammatory medication while we prepare for next steps.

Complete honesty here, I hesitated to share this. With encouragement and setting my pride aside, we’re here to ask for help, spread awareness, and hopefully find more resources to help Chanel.
