Lisa Farrell’s Fuck Off Cancer Fund
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ginny, and you may or may not know that our friend Lisa Farrell was diagnosed with breast cancer last month. If you know Lisa, you know that she is a fighter who, despite all of the hats she wears (including the pointy ones), she is not one who readily accepts help from others because giving is her thing. She is the primary caregiver for her live-in 87-year-old mom Erma who has dementia, works tirelessly for her own home-based business (MoonaLisa), and is a chef extraordinaire and domestic goddess for the home of four that she also shares with her husband Kc and teenage son Declan. Even without this recent diagnosis, Lisa's plate was full. But the prospect of the upcoming surgery and possible weeks-long radiation (for which healing will be slow) means she will lose income from her work during her traditionally busiest season. Kc will have to take some time off from work to do the housework, laundry and cooking/meals for her and the entire family, as well as assist with caring for her mom as Lisa will be unable. With so many additional costs involved with this diagnosis, Kc’s inevitable time off from work, and with Lisa unable to work while she recovers and undergoes various treatments, this Go Fund Me account was started by me to help ease Lisa's worry and let her know that sometimes it's perfectly fine to ask for and accept help for oneself.
This goal amount was determined based on the cumulative total of Lisa's health insurance deductible and additional out-of-network bills, plus one month's mortgage, car & home insurance, utilities, gas, and groceries for four. A fall "launch" for Lisa's business is tentatively planned based on Lisa's recovery, but it wouldn't be in time to cover a month's worth of missing salaries even if it were to happen. Please know that any amount you give, big or small, is much appreciated! Your donation will be deposited directly into Lisa's account.
A medical plan of action is currently underway, and Lisa's first surgery for a unilateral partial mastectomy is scheduled for tomorrow, August 31st. I will regularly provide updates on her progress, all with her permission.
Lisa is blessed with so many friends, and anything you might be able to give at this time to show your support, be it a kind message, a few bucks, or a meal, will buoy Lisa's spirits, help her to breathe once again, and focus on healing. And lastly, we would be grateful if you could take a moment to share Lisa's story on your social media accounts!
