BRYTE Summer Camp is a five-week academic and enrichment summer camp for one hundred refugee youth ages 6 to 14 in Providence, Rhode Island. Through practical learning, ESL curriculum, and creative group activities, BRYTE Summer Camp encourages learning and success in school and builds an inclusive community of youth who share experiences of resettlement and the challenges of integrating into a new country and school system. BRYTE Summer Camp is staffed by eight college-age Senior Counselors and eight high school-aged Junior Counselors who come from the refugee community and who are predominantly alumni of camp.
In 2015, BRYTE Summer Camp is responding to one of its most urgent, ongoing, community-identified needs by launching the BRYTE Leadership Institute (BLI), a brand new program for refugee students ages 14-22. The BLI is a leadership training ground, consisting of high-quality youth-driven programming for the teens who have aged out of camp. Through the BLI, the eight Junior Counselors and twenty-four other incredible young refugee leaders are coming together to participate in this six-week program that has three tracks:
Arts education with a focus on Photography and Web Design, culminating in the creation of an online camp yearbook
Social justice education, with a focus on the history of youth organizing
College and work readiness
The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to support the photography program by providing for the aquisition of a summer kit for each student.
Konstruktor Camera Kit $39
Film (4 roll pack) ~$12
Film Development $5 per roll
The supplies for each student total $66
Any additional funds will be used to aquire additional rolls of film and development.
All Konstructor Camera kits will be kept by the students after the end of the summer.
