Let’s help Cindy fight the battle against Breast Cancer!
Cindy found a lump herself back in September of 2019. She had an upcoming appointment with her OB Gyn Dr. and explained what she had found, who immediately sent her for an ultrasound and mammogram. The doctor who read both tests advised her to set up an ultrasound guided biopsy. A week before Christmas, Cindy Oliveira received the most shocking news that one could have received. She was diagnosed with invasive ductal stage two breast cancer. She immediately called her husband Shawn and he was just as shocked. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He has been such a strong and supportive husband by her side.
Cindy’s next step was that her breast surgeon sent her to do an MRI to make sure the cancer hadn’t spread. Cindy then followed up with her medical oncologist and was given the results that the cancer had grown and that one, possibly two, of the lymph nodes underneath her armpit were larger than normal. The recommendation was to have an axillary biopsy done. As the New Year set in, so did the biopsy results. Cindy found out that not only was her cancer located in the milk ducts, but also in her lymph node.
The treatment plan...
Cindy went to see a Reproductive Endocrine Doctor to help preserve fertility prior to chemo treatment. The chemo treatment regimen needed for Cindy would put her into post-menopause. An option that would have been medically necessary prior to chemo treatment would have been to harvest eggs and place them in storage. Insurance denied the procedure after multiple attempts from her Oncologist and Breast Surgeon. Unfortunately, Cindy and her husband do not have the out of pocket expenses right now to pay for the procedure. Cindy and her husband will remain positive in believing there will still be hope to start their family after cancer treatment.
Surgery: Double mastectomy
Chemotherapy
Hormone therapy
Delayed reconstruction with plastic surgeon
She will be beginning treatment soon. Starting on February 20th, 2020, Cindy will begin her first chemo treatment. After her chemo treatments, she will undergo a double mastectomy. So, on behalf of the Oliveira family, we have decided to set up this account to help Cindy & her husband. I am asking for your support in donations, as they navigate through this difficult time in their lives and try to alleviate some of the financial burden placed on these two incredible people. Like many people in Cindy’s situation, once you are diagnosed, not only do you have to worry about your health, but also about how you are going to pay for all of the costs associated - Insurance will not cover all of the costs.
During this time, Cindy needs to remain strong and focus on beating breast cancer, rather than any financial burdens.
As hard as this news has been for her and her husband, Cindy has stayed positive. We want to make they don’t have to worry; we want them to feel more at ease so she can remain strong and positive while she goes through this journey of fighting breast cancer.
With family and friends by my side, with hope and faith, she will become a Survivor.
Cancer has affected so many young lives and has been beaten over and over again. We are all confident that Cindy will be another champion!
