Hi, my name is Deborah Harris, and I am organizing this fundraiser for my friend Shawn Slagle and his wife, Deborah.

Shawn is an over-the-road truck driver who spends long days and nights away from home, traveling the highways most of us never see. Through all of those miles, his constant companion was his beloved Shih Tzu, Honeybear — his co-pilot, comfort, and source of joy on the road.

Today, while traveling through Wyoming in extreme 60–80 mph winds, Shawn was involved in a serious accident. Tragically, Honeybear lost her life.

Honeybear was not “just a dog.” She was family. She was God’s gift of companionship during lonely stretches of highway, quiet nights in the cab, and the everyday stresses of life on the road. Losing her so suddenly has left Shawn completely heartbroken.

We are raising funds to help Shawn:

• Take time away from work to grieve and recover

• Cover unexpected expenses related to the accident

• And, when he is ready, build and place a small memorial cross in honor of Honeybear’s life and the love they shared

Shawn and his wife Deborah also have another young Shih Tzu named Lucy, who is now adjusting to the loss of her companion.

Scripture reminds us that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18). This fundraiser is a way for us to be His hands — offering support, comfort, and love during an incredibly painful time.
