Please consider lending a helping hand to Pam, Alex’s mom, during her challenging battle with cervical cancer. Pam has been bravely fighting this cancer for four long months, undergoing chemotherapy every three weeks. During this time, at no fault of her own, she lost her health insurance and had to buy a private pay policy. As a result, she was billed out of pocket for one full month’s worth of treatments, which is becoming very overwhelming for her. To make matters worse, her latest scans have revealed that she will need to undergo radiation therapy five times a week, Monday to Friday, and chemotherapy once a week. Pam will have to travel to Iowa City from Grinnell every day of the week. Unfortunately, this new treatment regimen will only allow her to possibly work part-time, maybe 2-3 shifts a week, if her body will even allow that. Pam visits Alex every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, and she also takes him home every other weekend. Alex’s mental health depends on these visits, and Pam’s absence would be devastating. With all that being said, this new treatment plan makes it impossible for Pam to keep working, paying her living expenses, her insurance coverage, the medical bills, and still keep up her visits with Alex. The worry that this has caused Pam is just as bad for her health and mental health. Pam is a very private, very independent person who will never ask for help. She adopted Alex when he was three years old and has been a dedicated parent to Alex and a dedicated employee at McNally’s in Grinnell, serving the community for almost 30 years. She’s never missed a day of work or a visit with Alex until she got sick. Alex is her whole world and she is Alex’s whole world. They are very, very close. Alex relies on his visits with his mom.
