A Miracle for Molly

Molly Cyr, a 30 year old outdoor adventure educator, had everything going for her. She had recently joined the environmental education team at Wolfe’s Neck Farm in Freeport, Maine, where she devoted countless hours to educating kids about the natural environment, local ecosystems, and the ways of a working farm. She was engaged to marry her long time sweetheart, Andrew, in September 2021, (after delaying their wedding scheduled for September 2020 due to COVID). She and Andrew were in the process of buying their first home and building their life together. Everything seemed to be falling in place for this active and happy woman.
Then, on Friday, October 23, 2020, the day on which she and Andrew were scheduled to finalize the purchase of their first house, disaster struck. Just before the closing, Molly started experiencing a piercing headache and extreme nausea, and quickly became unresponsive. She was rushed to Midcoast Hospital, where Andrew learned she had experienced multiple catastrophic blood clots in her brain, and then was immediately transferred to the ICU at Maine Medical Center. Molly, a young woman with her whole life ahead of her, was suddenly unresponsive and in critical condition.
To keep her alive, her doctors performed brain surgery to remove many (but not all) of the blood clots, inserted a drain into her head, maintained her with a breathing tube, and kept her under heavy sedation. Molly remained in the ICU for a week, receiving multiple treatments from her amazing team of doctors and nurses. Their efforts, coupled with Molly’s endless positivity and determination, and a lot of luck, saved Molly’s life. Now, Molly is doing much better. She is out of immediate danger, but still faces a long road ahead, which will include taking some serious medications, receiving rehabilitation services in Boston, lots of rest, and continued outpatient therapy closer to home.
Andrew has dedicated all of his time and energy over the past weeks to supporting Molly, at the expense of his work and income. Molly will be unable to return to work for some time, her health insurance runs out in December, and Andrew will need to balance caring for her with his own work schedule. This cruel twist of fate has left this young couple, who had everything in place to start their life together, with huge medical bills, a new mortgage, lost wages, and significantly decreased income for the considerable future. Any financial help you can provide to help Andrew and Molly make ends meet will make the long road of Molly’s recovery that much easier, as they are facing some pretty big challenges in the days and months ahead.
