Franky’s Fight

Ever heard of an amazing soul.  His name is Franky Nocera! He is a great son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.  He would do anything for anyone. He is such a hard worker goes to work everyday never calls off, never been sick or in the hospital.  Then all of a sudden on February 26, 2021 everything changed for this special man. On the February 26, 2021 he had surgery to fix a herniated umbilical cord and it went good. Around two weeks after his surgery he started getting back pain and muscle spasms in his legs.  His primary care physician referred him to a back doctor.  They did an MRI and x-rays and couldn’t really figure out what was causing all this. We thought it had something to do with his surgery, but they said he had osteoporosis in his back. They wouldn’t give him anything for pain until he went to do physical therapy to see if this would help. After the first physical theray he was approved to get the pain shot in his back.  That helped him for a while. He went back to physical therapy and couldn’t move his right arm and they told him to go to his PCP.  He was able to go to his PCP that day and they referred him to an Orthopedic Surgeon.  The Orthopedic Surgeon scheduled an appointment the next day which was on April 29, 2021.  He got x-rays and was told the unthinkable.  He found out his bone was broken and they found a black spot on his bone. They told him it was Multiple Myeloma  which is a blood cancer.  They think the cancer might be in his back and hip also but won’t know more until further testing.  They told him that he needed to be admitted right away and have surgery 1st thing in the morning.  He asked if he could go home and tell his family before he was admitted.  He had family come to the house and tell us this devastating news.  We were all in shock at this point.  He has lost 60 pounds and could barely walk or stand for long periods of time.  How could we miss this?  Why is this happening to him?  He doesn’t deserve any of this!  He was at the hospital for several weeks he ended up getting pneumonia while in the hospital and also two blood transfusions.  He was being treated by two doctors from the  Hillmans Cancer Center. The one cancer doctor in Beaver County was treating his broken right arm and wanted him to start radiation quickly.  He did 8 rounds of radiation in his broken arm and finished on Friday, May 28, 2021.  A couple days prior on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 we had an appointment with the other cancer doctor at the Hillmans Cancer Center in Shadyside. They explained everything. The doctor says this is treatable but not curable.  He is young and still could have many many more years with us. They told us what type of treatment he will be doing.  It will take two different types of pills and a shot for about 6 to 8 months hoping to put him in remission because once in remission they want to do a stem cell transplant.  They also told us that we need to get a biopsy and a PET scan done.  The biopsy will let us know more and how aggressive it is. The PET scan will be done to his whole body and see where all the cancer is.  It usually takes weeks to get in for the  biopsy of his bone marrow,  but the doctor wanted it done ASAP because of how fast things went down hill.  He was back there within 30 minutes to get the biopsy.  It was really painful for him but now we wait for the results.  I know my family is the strongest people I know and with all of us together we can fight this fight!  Everyday he’s getting stronger and we want him to focus on him journey ahead and not worry about bills for medical expenses.  We are asking for donations and if you can’t donate please keep my family in your prayers and share this publicly! We will keep you updated thank you so much!
