Help Jen Get Divorced!

Hi! I'm Jen, and I'm trying get my independence back.

My kid and I moved out of the house we shared with her father around three and a half years ago. After realizing how much financial and emotional damage my marriage did to me over 18 years, I filed for divorce last August. It's finally coming to mediation in early May, but I just found out that I have to pay $3,600 up front.

I lost my job in October and had a $2,000 cat emergency in December. I've run through every cent I had (it wasn't much) to keep my kid and I afloat and in a home. My unemployment runs out in April. I've had no help from her father, despite paying his bills for most of 11 years. I've been privileged that my parents were willing and able to help financially, but they've reached their limit.

My husband still lives in our family home. To stay there, he will have to buy me out of my half. So, I should be more financially stable (and emotionally, for that matter) after the divorce is final.

I just found out that both my rent relief application and unemployment appeal were denied. Really not sure what to do right now.
