This is Bubba's story. Six years and 10 months ago, the sweetest little bundle of wrinkly love was born and changed my life completely. He's stolen quite a few hearts during his little life (including my husband’s), and continues to capture the love and affection of everyone he meets-- he is my Bubba Boo.
About two weeks ago, during a routine comprehensive physical exam, the vet found a mass on Bubba's right anal gland. We immediately did a needle biopsy only to discover the worst news possible-- it was cancer. In the next week that followed, he was poked and prodded in every which way and the news we received was less than uplifting.
He was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma, which is essentially cancer of the anal glands. Unfortunately, it is a highly aggressive form that quickly spreads to other organs and the lymph nodes. After x-rays, ultrasounds, and blood work, we found that although it hadn't spread to his organs, it looked like it had spread to at least one lymph node.
We got him into surgery immediately where he underwent two operations: the tumor/anal gland removal and abdominal lymph node excision. He made it through the surgery with flying colors and once again, stole the hearts of the wonderful medical staff at Pet Emergency & Specialty Center in La Mesa. We were able to take him home the next day and couldn't be more elated that he is now home safe with us.
But we, unfortunately, are not out of the woods. Because this type of cancer has a 40% chance of coming back within less than a year, the oncologist has urged us to consider radiation and/or chemotherapy as a follow up to the surgery. Right now, we are waiting for the biopsy results from the tumor and lymph node to diagnose just how aggressive a cancer Bubba's is. This information will give us a better idea of the amount of radiation and chemo he will need to give him a fighting chance.
While all of my internet research suggests a less than positive outlook, I remain faithful. I just know my Bubba's time with us is not over and he has a lot of happy bully birthdays ahead.
While my husband, Eric, and I had a small savings, it was not nearly enough to cover the cost of just Bubba's first surgery and hospital stay, which came out to a little over 5k. I've inquired about rough estimates of the cost of radiation/chemo and have been told it ranges between 4-8k. So now is the time for us to plan ahead.
Bubba is loved by so many of our family and friends who specifically requested we create this "Go Fund Me" campaign to show their love with financial support. And we cannot thank you enough for your kind inquiries.
I have set the goal at 12k as a high-end estimate. If Bubba's story touches you and you feel so inclined to contribute, every dollar counts. But please, by no means feel obligated. We would just as much appreciate a kind prayer or thought sent bubba's way, or maybe a share of this link to other fur-baby enthusiasts that may be on your friends list.
I was hesitant to create one of these because I have heard horror stories of how they can create riffs in relationships and ruin friendships over how the fund are handled. In anticipation of this, I want to make our intentions very clear. Every cent earned from this campaign will be spent solely on Bubba's vet bills pertaining to this medical treatment plan. I would be happy to post updates on costs/bills/invoices as proof as well. And in the unlikely event that we raise more money than we need, the rest will be donated to our favorite bulldog rescue: Ary Toussi's One of a Kind Bulldogs Rescue and/or Angel Fund. Eric and I have enjoyed volunteering for Ary's Rescue as he has given us the joys of our two other female bulldogs, Precious and Paris. Ary does amazing things with his rescue and the Angel Fund was set us specifically to help his customer's in financial need and medical care. Since that is essentially what we are asking of our family and friends, it seems only fair to give back if given the opportunity.

I will be posting updates on Bubba's care as I receive more information and hope you will fall in love with this sweet boy's wrinkly face as much as we have. He is not our pet, he is our son. And we will do anything it takes to keep our son healthy and happy as long as we can.
Thank you for reading the story of an ador-a-bull boy named Bubba.
