My name is Tracy Domingues. To those of you who don't know, this is Nathan. He is my son's classmate and friend, and I am friends with his family. He is one of the sweetest 6 year olds I have been fortunate enough to know. This is an amazing family that has received some devastating news.
In a matter of days, Nathan went from being a typically active little boy to critically ill in the hospital. On April 12th, he came down with what they thought was just another childhood virus. Instead, it was a virus that aggressively attacked his liver and led to acute liver failure 3 days later.
Nathan is in need of a liver transplant. His health and upcoming surgery are big enough worries for any family to endure. I don't want them to have the additional burden of worrying about the financial aspect. I set up this go fund me account because so many people have asked how they can help. Any amount is appreaciated. It all adds up if we pull together for this amazing family.
They are also actively looking for living donors. The risk to the donor is minimal and they would only lose 20-30% of their liver. The donor will have to be O+ or O-. Ideal candidate is under 50yrs old (40 or under is best) and a BMI under 30. Please contact me if you would like to be screened.
Another way to help this family is to go to Ochsner in New Orleans and donate blood in his name, Nathan Hellwig. Even if you do not have the same blood type as Nathan, the donation offsets the costs to them.
A blood drive to benefit Nathan will be held in Thibodaux. All donations of any blood type will directly benefit him. A representative of LOPA will also be on site with information on organ donation.
