Help Cayden Crush Cancer
In mid-August, Cayden just didn’t feel well. He was pale, tired. and during a weightlifting workout with his father, almost passed out. Something was wrong but no one ever suspected the diagnosis, including the doctors. At age 24, MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome), a blood disorder also referred to as pre-leukemia, seemed impossible. But, cancer doesn’t discriminate.
Since the MDS diagnosis, Cayden has been unable to work. He has had numerous blood transfusions, too many to count. His condition was further complicated when he needed surgery to rectify an infection which resulted in a 6 day hospital say. He has already been through 4 rounds of chemotherapy at Froedtert in Milwaukee. Each round lasts 5 days and Cayden’s father has been taking him back and forth to Milwaukee each day of each round.
Beginning January 7, 2020, Cayden is embarking upon a life-saving bone marrow transplant thanks to a donor somewhere in the world who was deemed a match. After the transplant, Cayden is required to live within minutes of Froedtert for 100 days which means his family has had to rent an apartment in Milwaukee. With deductibles, co-pays, travel, medication, and upcoming lodging needs in Milwaukee, out-of-pocket expenses are adding up. Cayden will need 24/7 care following the transplant which also means unpaid employment leaves for both of his parents. His self-employed father has not worked since November 1 so he could care for Cayden, including driving back and forth to Milwaukee for chemo. Cayden’s mom will have to take extended leave from her job to care for Cayden throughout the transplant and recovery process.
Through all of this, Cayden has been optimistic that he is going to crush this. His biggest concern is having a support system around him to get him through this life changing challenge and not burdening his parents with the expenses associated with his diagnosis, treatment and transplant.
Cayden and his family would be extremely grateful and thankful for any help you can give.
