For Drew

It is with great sorrow that this GoFundMe account is created. Our son, brother, friend and husband Drew Hossle is gone. This page is for helping to raise funds to pay Drew’s remaining medical bills, allow his end-of-life wishes to be carried out, and remove the financial strain from his family so they may grieve unencumbered.
What we know:
Some time on the evening of August 1, Drew went missing and eventually lost his life. It is unfathomable that this man, once so full of life and light, is no longer with us. There will be no more shared laughs, no more standing shoulder to shoulder with Drew to advocate for our community’s most vulnerable members, no more of the music and jokes and silliness that were trademarks of this beautiful human being. This loss is unimaginable to all those who knew Drew and whose lives were positively impacted by his incredible sensitivity, compassion and humor. Those who loved Drew will suffer the loss most acutely, and are left with the immense task of learning to live well without him, as he would have wanted them to do.
Who he helped:
Drew found his calling in his mid-twenties. He followed his mother’s footsteps into the field of mental health. Drew worked as a behavior specialist with our community’s most vulnerable young people. He was good at it. He made connections with the kids quickly with humor and genuine care and concern. Over time, he earned the trust of children and families who had been let down by systems and institutions that oppress those who live with mental health issues. Drew had uncommon passion for dismantling corrupt systems and advocating for the rights of his communities.
Who he was:
Drew was hilarious and wildly creative. He had tremendous heart and sensitivity for underdogs. He had an uncommon work ethic and advocated tirelessly. He did all this while contending with debilitating seizures that progressively weakened him both physically and emotionally. He struggled with medication changes, innumerable doctor visits and increasing reliance on the people he loved. He told his mother he felt betrayed by his body and mind.
Drew was loved deeply by so many people, from his colleagues in the mental health field to fellow musicians to his Masonic brothers and his childhood friends. No one loved Drew more than his family. His bond with his mother, Marcy, was legendary. Seizures made it impossible for Drew to drive to work and medical appointments for long stretches at a time, but together they navigated that difficult terrain with humor and respect and love.
We know that many things in Drew’s life were extremely difficult. None more so than the toll that his seizures, due to epilepsy diagnosed in his twenties, took on his physical and mental health. To say that Drew will be missed is a profound understatement. The loss of Drew leaves a void
that will never be filled. There is a new normal that will take a very long time to make peace with. The funds raised by this campaign will ensure that financial strain won’t be one more thing Drew’s family has to contend with. It will free them to grieve their loss.
Drew lives on in the lives of those who knew and loved him, in the lives of those he worked with and advocated for, and in the lives of those who love the people he helped. The ripple effect of Drew’s contributions continues to expand. That is his legacy.
