Hello my name is Ashley cooper, I am an licensed Esthetician and currently in school to become a Esthetics (beauty) Teacher. I am fundraising to help keep my business open.
My passion had always been to help others. I have had jobs working with elderly, special needs, and also in the beauty field. I finally found mypurpose in restoring and enhancing beauty. I offered services such as body waxing, brow wax, tint, facials, microshading. Not only would I give my clients a boost of confidence with my gifted hands I would mentor many. I enjoyed being a safe haven for them and creating a serene environment for them to relax.
On November 17 I was diagnosed with COVID, six days later I was diagnosed with COVID pneumonia. I was admitted in the hospital. From the moment I was admitted I went through hell. I was treated poorly by nurses, CNAs, and house keeping. Due to COVID I was told no one wanted to come into my room. I had a commode next to my bed that no one dumped for 3 days. You can only image what my room smelt like. My blood pressure dropped drastically to 82/54 as I was unattended to by the hospital staff for several hours. The neglect I experienced resulted in me dwelling into a diabetic coma and having a mini stroke. There was no heat in my room for 3 days, the temperature was 67 degrees per the engineer. I had issues with my IV it was not put in properly which led to the fluid going into my muscle and not my veins. My arm got really big, I asked for it to be taken out immediately. My nurse at the time removed it, she then proceeded to tell me she didn’t know how to evem start an IV. I had a fever or 102, my nurse left out stating she’ll be right back to give me meds to reduce the fever and water. She left me water or meds for 3 hours. Most of the nurses were through agencies and didn’t care for me properly. The doctor came in once out of the four days I was there. He couldn’t answer any of my questions. One was about my breathing treatment and the other was about my vitals. He didn’t know anything.
As I was fighting for my life, staff made it very stressful for me, I wasn’t getting better. I prayed multiple times daily that I would make it out alive. It was so bad I had to call 911 on the hospital just to get a nurse to attend to me. I was on oxygen and afraid to leave, but I knew I had to get out of there. My family searched for private ambulance service to transport me to a better hospital to no avail. At my breaking point my sister arrived and refused to leave without the hospital allowing me to leave. I couldn’t walk and the nurse told me she was not taking me down to get discharged I would have to call someone to help me. The respiratory therapist who cared for me prior was nice enough to give me an oxygen tank and I was transported by my sister. My sister came up which visitors aren’t allowed and wheeled me out. She immediately rushed me to another hospital where I was treated with the best care. I was released in 3 days.
As a result of these circumstances, I am now unable to work and maintain the expenses to keep my business open. I had to put my education on pause and take a leave of absence from school. Right now I’m focusing on recovering, going to physical therapy, and seeing a therapist.
I’m heartbroken that my life has changed in a blink of an eye, yet very very grateful to be alive. My dream is to finish school and open a beauty school. My passion for giving back, servicing and helping people enhancing their beauty is endless. I’m taking this experience one day at a time, and hopefully one day soon I’ll be back to myself and back in the world being the change I desire to be and positively making a difference in the life’s of the people I serve day in and day out.
Since my hospitalization I’ve fell behind on the weekly expenses it takes to maintain my salon suite and medical bills. I’m asking for your support to help me become current. However, I know that recovery will take some time but I will be working hard to get back to my passion and purpose.
