LONG ROAD AHEAD--TRISTAN’S ACCIDENT RECOVERY FUND
THE ACCIDENT:
On July 21st, 2020 at 10:00 pm at night, Tristan Neal was in a horrific accident on interstate I-10 in Houston. While he and a fellow rider drove their motorcycles that night, Tristan lost control as another vehicle suddenly entered his lane. The impact with that car sent Tristan and his bike skidding across the highway, where the bike burst into flames. As debris was sent flying, onlookers rushed to the burning bike to pull him out... butTristan was nowhere to be found.
In the chaos, Tristan’s body had been launched off the bike 100 feet into another lane of traffic.
A passing white pickup truck then struck Tristan and dragged him approximately a mile down the interstate. The driver continued until Tristan’s body fell into the road, ultimately fleeing the scene rather than offering aid.
Eventually, the people who had gathered around the bike put out the flames only to realize that his battered body was further down the freeway. An ambulance arrived on the scene and Tristan was rushed to Memorial Hermann’s ER. Tristan’s ID was abandoned at the crash site and a good Samaritan posted it to a local motorcycle group’s FB page in the hopes his family would be notified. News of the post reached Tristan’s mom, who contacted the rest of the immediate family with everyone’s worst nightmare... Tristan had been in a devestatubg accident, no one yet knew where he had been taken, and more importantly no one was sure if he was alive.
Your Contribution to His Road to Recovery
Before all this, Tristan was a healthy 19-year-old who had just finished his first year at community college. He is a well-loved son, brother, boyfriend and friend. While we’re all grateful for his miraculous survival, we also feel he shouldn’t have to make compromises between his health, financial stability and future quality of life...which is where you come in.
It’s clear that Tristan’s needs during recovery will be extensive:
-Significant hospital stay
-Multiple surgeries
-Physical therapy to regain use of his dominant hand and legs
-Extended period of medications to battle potential infections/pain throughout this process
-Numerous forms of medical equipment to support his recovery
-More needs yet to be understood.
The timeline and cost for all of us this is TBD, with his family poised to help as much as they can over the long months ahead. Clearly, he will be out of work for quite some time due to the extent of his injuries and only afterwards will begin to rebuild his life (education, job, replacement vehicle, etc.)
Anything you can offer to offset Tristan’s expenses so he doesn’t have to sacrifice more due to this unfortunate accident is appreciated.
A list of his extensive injuries is in the first update below.
His protective equipment (gloves, jacket, etc) were all damaged during the accident and were ultimately cut from his body. As you can see in the included photo, his helmet was literally coming apart due to the various impacts he endured on the freeway. That equipment saved his life.
