Axl Wade Cancer Research Memorial Fund

If you know the Wade’s, you know the Rottweilers. Axl Wade was our youngest. The sweetest, most gentle and loving dog you’ll ever meet.

He spent his days at our offices supporting clients, chasing squirrels in the park, and guarding the backyard from the Rabbit Terrorist organization over the hillside.

In the middle of November 2022, Axl was lethargic from an infection in his mouth. 10 days later that irritated gum was a tumor the size of a golf ball. On December 4th Axl turned 5, and celebrated with his brother Apollo over peanut butter oat cake and chicken jerky. 3 weeks later he passed away peacefully in our Pittsburgh home, with all of us holding him. He was a beautiful soul taken suddenly and way to soon.

Histiocytic Sarcoma is a rare cancer of the white blood cells. Said simply, his immune system developed cancer. When the body’s own army turns on it, there is nothing that can be done at this time. This cancer also exists in humans. There are genetic and environmental factors to be investigated so treatments can begin to take shape.

The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and its donors have funded over $17 million in canine cancer research. These 257 research grants have helped scientists study cancer at the cellular level, providing breakthroughs that allow veterinarians to diagnose cancer earlier and treat it more effectively. CHF-funded research also has a One Health impact, extending beyond dogs with an application to human cancer diagnosis and treatment. Canine cancer research is a major concern of dog owners and veterinary professionals. Typically, about one quarter of CHF’s grant funding concerns various types of canine cancers.

Allison and I, as well as the Case Specific Family, will be making a personal donation to their cause in Axl’s memory. He would not want others to go through what he did, and we do not want other families to deal with the sudden and tragic loss we experienced. If you are able, we invite you to make a donation with us. We Thank You for Your Support, for helping us make a difference, and for supporting the legacy of our certified good boy, Axl Wade.
