Hi, my name is Tiara and I am 24 years old. I am beginning a 5-year medicine degree at the university of Brighton with the goal of becoming a Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
Having grown up in care and as a care leaver, I refused to let adversity define me. Instead, I built resilience, discipline, and a passion for helping others.
I previously studied Biomedical Science, graduating with a 2:1 and worked as a care assistant for four years, supporting patients with dignity and compassion and with varying mental capacity as well as physical capabilities. Alongside my studies, I’ve raised money for charities such as Mind through fundraising events, including a skydive, and I’ve shared mental health awareness online to inspire others.
I spent my early teenage years in the Army Cadet Force (ACF), where I earned my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and served as Parade Marshall at just 16. The ACF taught me the values of leadership, loyalty, and perseverance, which continue to guide me today and I aim to transfer in my studies as a medical student.
Unfortunately, because I already hold a degree, I’m not eligible for student finance to cover my tuition fees. Without support, I won’t be able to fund my studies.
Every contribution, little or large will directly go towards my tuition and help me achieve my dream of becoming a doctor, specialising in trauma department.
Thank you for reading my story and for supporting me on this journey to contribute back to the community.
May God continue to bless you with every act of giving.
Tiara Galloway
