Dan's Fund
Donation protected
My name is Dean Whittington I currently run a Martial Arts school in Perth Western Australia. Recently one of my students (Daniel Thurling) due to an illegal move during competition sustained an extremely serious neck injury competing in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition. Dan was rushed to hospital during the event and
it was discovered that Dan had fractured one of his vertebra and dislocate the C5 joint in his neck. It was extremely lucky that Dan was not paralysed as a result.
Dan was required to have extensive surgery to repair the damage.
Dan had a piece of bone that was removed from his hip joint attached to his fractured vertebrae with titanium plates.
Dan is a passionate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner and has devoted a large part of his life to training and competing in the art.
As a result of his injuries Dan will lose considerable movement in his neck and may never compete again and will never be able to train properly in the art that he loves.
Dan is a self-employed concreter with a successful business. He has a young family who have been by his side since the accident.
Dan will be required to wear a neck brace for the next 3 months and will require ongoing physio and rehabilitation sessions for months to come.
Dan is due to move in to his newly built house over the coming weeks and due to his injuries will find this extremely difficult.
As his coach and friend I am putting this request out to people who may be able to donate some cash to enable Dan and his family to get through the coming months financially.
I will be extremely grateful for any contribution towards Dan's fund
Thanking you in advance
Dean Whittington.
