Kevin and Hong met in the 9th grade of high school while attending the same church in Seoul, South Korea; in 10th grade they started dating. On March 8, 1982 Kevin and Hong were married and in 1985 they immigrated to America.
On October 15, 1984, their first daughter Yuni was born, followed by their second daughter, Susan, on March 4, 1990. For five years following the birth of their daughters, life was perfect.
In 1995 the Bae family received devastating news: both of Kevin's kidneys were failing and he would need to start dialysis immediately, followed by a kidney transplant. This was the beginning of an uphill battle for Kevin and his family. Both relatives and friends were tested and one match was found. Kevin's sister-in-law Sabrina, the wife of his older brother, was the perfect donor. After a few years of perseverance in preparing his body for the transplant, Kevin underwent a successful kidney transplant in 1999. Thus began his continuous journey to maintain his health and to live life to its fullest.
Twenty years of constant medical care, endless bottles of medication, monthly doctor visits, and the daily upkeep of his health followed the transplant. But April 2015 brought more upsetting news. Kevin’s kidney that had been operating for 16 years was unexpectedly and rapidly deteriorating. The barrage of medical tests, hospital visits, more treatments, and even more medication was once again the norm. Dialysis was yet again an everyday routine.
On May 27, 2015 Kevin’s ongoing battle with his kidney came to an abrupt end. The dialysis that was sustaining his health became too much for his body and health to manage. He remained strong and optimistic until the very end and his worries were for the well-being of those around him rather than himself. His empathy for others knew no bounds – it was limitless and enduring.
Kevin’s life was filled with joy and happiness. In recent years, you would have found that Kevin and his wife, Hong, spent their weekends camping, going on day trips, and taking numerous selfies and photographs. The high school sweethearts were once again spending their time like young lovers when they first met 43 years ago. The perpetual night owl, Kevin has seen almost every movie that you have seen, plus more. He was full of laughter and could find the humor in any situation bringing a smile to your face. He was a tech geek – every new gadget or electronic was one he had to have. He was the “cool” dad because he was always up to date with what was trending. A child at heart, he leaves behind an honorable legacy for his wife and daughters. Kevin Bae was a loving husband and partner and a caring and compassionate father. He touched the hearts of everyone around him.
Please help us keep his memory alive as we transition into a new phase of our lives. Your donation will help support our family during this difficult period in our lives as we cope with the loss of the anchor of our close knit family. Your support and love is greatly appreciated by our family whether it is monetary or otherwise.
