Thurin Family House Fire

Donation protected
Jay and Ashley Thurin lost their home to a fire on Thursday evening May, 28th. They have two children, MaKenna is 7 and Jax is 4. Also they have three dogs, Fritz is a 4 year old German Shorthair Pointer as well is their 7 year female Jezzebelle. Then they have their 4 month old English Bulldog Stryker. Stryker is named after Thurin's section from the Marine Corps. Jay served honorably in the United States Marine Corps as an infantry grunt deploying only once to Iraq. His dreams of being a career Marine were taken when he was wounded in combat not once but twice. The second time he was wounded he was struck by a large IED that took the life of his friend and driver LCPL Probst. Thurin was taken to Germany and then back to California after several surgeries to repair the shrapnel wounds he received. Since being medically discharged from the Marines he and his wife came back to Kimball, Nebraska where he helps out on the farm with his father. While being blessed this year with rain, Jay has ran into some though luck with other farmers and lost a good share of his wheat to a late freeze. Now to make matters worse he and his family have lost their house to a fire. Jay and Ashley bought this house in October of 2012 and completely remodeled it from the studs up. He was on the final stretch of finishing the whole house with finishing the master bathroom. During the renovation the house started on fire. It looks like the big halogen flood light he was using to provide light had fell over and started the fire. Thankfully Jay and the kids were outside in the shop cutting wood for inside and Ashley was in Scottsbluff at class, she is finishing her teaching degree with hopes of landing her first teaching job this fall. Thankfully nobody was hurt in the fire. While the house is insured the family has a very long road ahead for them, what wasn't lost in the fire was smoke damaged awful. The family has managed to round up some odds and ends to get by for a while until they can find out what can be saved and cleaned and what must be destroyed. Unfortunately it takes a very long time to get stuff hauled out and taken to be evaluated and find out if it can be saved or not, then be cleaned. This is a great family that would do anything for anybody on a moments notice. They have never turned down someone in need and we ask that you help them out in their time of need. Thank you so much for you're help.
