“Stella” Dave Barr has been missing from our local watering hole on Bedford St, “Tigin”.
On the morning of October 20, an out of control driver ran into over 9 cars in dave's apartment complex. Walking to his car for work, Dave was caught in the way and was crushed between 2 cars.One of these cars ended up on top of dave trapping his hip and leg beneath its wheel. The car had to be lifted from his body by the first responder firemen.
He was flown by helicopter to a regional trauma hospital in a critical condition. Dave had total kidney failure, both his lungs had collapsed. His leg and hip took the worst of the impact though he had numerous broken bones. The list of injuries were over 2 pages long.
For 2 weeks Dave was kept in a medically induced coma. In all he spent 30+ days in the intensive care unit of a top trauma hospital, and then 40+ days on a trauma ward at the hospital. He is presently in a local rehabilitation / nursing home learning how to walk again.
Medical bills are coming due, unfortunately insurance covers only a percentage of the cost. He is expected to be rehabilitating for an extended period of time working towards the goal of getting back to his career and his life. Since Dave is disabled, renovations will also need to be made to his house to allow him to move home. With all his body has gone through future health and living costs are uncertain.
We are all proud of Dave and amazed with how he has beaten the odds so far.
