Hi, my name is Linda; my family and I are fundraising for my son Rene Rodriguez.  

Rene has undergone a series of limb salvage surgeries since February 2021 due to a disabling condition known as Charcot Ankle. Since then, he has been getting around with the help of a scooter because he has had to wear an Ilizarov External Fixator (aka “Halo Device”) that helps stabilize his leg and foot.

He is not out of the woods yet. He is currently recovering from the final stabilization procedure before they can remove the Halo Device and implant an internal brace for long-term stability. Although it’s not a permanent cure, it must be cared for and maintained long after the final surgery so that he can sustain some normalcy that will allow him to walk again.

As a result of all the surgeries and not being able to put any weight on his leg, he is unable to work after 20+ years as a Cook, which has resulted in the loss of his health insurance in the middle of his necessary medical and surgical care.

Rene is a kind, intelligent, funny, and talented artist who loves spending time with his daughter and family. Rene has a strong determination to do what he can to restore his health to the maximum level possible. We sincerely hope this illuminates the challenging course Rene has endured in the last couple of years.
