Hello everyone,

My name is Marco, and I'm reaching out to you today with a small request for some support for my mom, Joy Campolo. She is the strongest, most selfless woman I have ever met, and she is the last person to ask for help, even when she needs it most. She has spent so much of her life caring for those around her, I am hoping that this time around, she can be the one that is being cared for.

Joy’s Story:

Over the past month, my mom has gone through a whirlwind of appointments, tests, scans, and procedures.

Her diagnosis is a benign Neuroendocrine Tumor within the pancreas. The mass has required her to have a stent inserted so that a damaged biliary duct connecting the pancreas to the liver can function correctly, and the vessels running to and from her pancreas to other vital organs can do so as well. The stent is only a temporary solution, as the blood vessels around the pancreas are currently more dilated than they should be, and are at risk of bursting. This means that there is no other option but to have the tumor fully removed.

The size and location of the tumor combined with a damaged biliary duct and blood vessels have complicated the steps needed for removal and make this a high risk surgery. This includes taking a blood vessel from the leg to replace the damaged one.

Her surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11th 2024 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.

As I'm sure you can imagine, all of this has resulted in tremendous emotional and financial burdens - but despite all of that, it has not detracted from Joy’s optimism and her will to fight through this, one of life’s many speed bumps.

More Joy:

Joy is an absolutely wonderful mother (to me!), a loving sister, a thoughtful friend, and a big part of her community as a nutritionist within the Effingham County Middle School in Georgia.

And it doesn’t stop there - she is an avid camper, gardener, bike rider, beach walker, and is the first to dive in to try something new. She is 65 years old, only in age, and brings meaning to the phrase “age is but a number.” I can tell you firsthand that she keeps me (a 32 year old) on my toes.

If you were to ask anyone in her life, they would be able to tell you about the sacrifices she has made to be able to spread positivity to everyone she meets, and to help those who are close to her first and foremost. I would love to show her how many friends, family, and beyond that she has had an impact on and would deeply appreciate any support you are able to show.
