My name is Paula Chacón, and I am an 18-year-old singer from Veracruz, Mexico. I auditioned for A Cappella Academy, a 10-day vocal camp held near Los Angeles, California. Only the top 13% are admitted, so when I was accepted again this year, I was extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to return and embark on this journey alongside less than 100 other vocalists.

I have been singing since I was 4 years old. When some friends first told me about A Cappella Academy, I started researching what it was about. I watched videos on YouTube and saw the incredible voices, talent, and diversity of the participants. I was amazed by what could be achieved with just the human voice, and I knew I had to be part of it.

Last summer, that dream became a reality when I was accepted and experienced Academy for myself. It was truly life-changing. I grew so much as a musician, collaborated with inspiring artists, and formed friendships that will last a lifetime. Now I have the incredible opportunity to return for another summer, and I couldn't be more excited to continue learning and creating music at this one-of-a-kind program.

That is the reason why I am here. Tuition for camp comes up to $2,800 (not including airfare to and from LA from Mexico). It is my ultimate goal to raise enough money to attend camp without putting any financial strain on my family, my parents are not able to cover the tuition since they don’t earn enough money to pay for it, especially in another country.
