Oskar’s story

Oskar is only 18 months old and has already been in the hospital for three months. He was admitted due to cardiogenic shock. Genetic tests revealed that he suffers from a rare TNNT2 gene mutation, which leads to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

This mutation appeared completely by chance (de novo) – neither his mom nor dad are carriers. Sadly, this time fate has struck our little boy.

His fight so far

Oskar has already undergone:

2 major life-saving surgeries,

3 times he had to be put into deep sedation,

and he was even resuscitated.

For many weeks we could not have any contact with him – our little son was under the influence of strong medications that kept him alive, but took away his smile and awareness.

Current situation

Oskar’s heart is no longer able to work on its own – its function is supported by a Berlin Heart VAD machine, known as a “bridge to transplant.” His only chance for survival is a heart transplant.

Right now, his condition is stable. Under the care of doctors, he is learning everything all over again – playing, trying to eat on his own, speak, and even take his first steps. When we look at him, we see an enormous will to live.
