Jeff Zusman Funeral Fund

On Wednesday, May 16, we surprised our daughters, Caitlin (13) and Daphne (8) with a trip to Disneyland.  Jeff was so happy to make their dreams come true as we have been struggling financially for quite some time.  Once there, Jeff was feeling a little tired so we watched our girls dance off together to go on some rides.  He did not want us to worry about him, but I insisted we go to the First Aid station.  As soon as Jeff was seen, they immediately put him in an ambulance and rushed him off to the ER.  As I combed Disneyland for my girls, I received a call from the hospital to hurry over there.  Frantically, I searched for my girls while calling  other family members.  I had no idea what was happening.  Once we arrived at the hospital, I was told that my dear Jeff was in ICU.  He had a stroke and his brain was bleeding in a place where surgeons could not drain it.  They told us to say our goodbyes.  It is all still a blur.  One moment we're enjoying a long-deserved family vacation and the next moment my girls and I are saying goodbye to Daddy?

Jeff's life was like Forrest Gump, truly.  This was the eulogy I wrote in the hospital:

Gentleman, scholar and steely-eyed missileman - Jeff, you were our joy, our love, our hero.  From the moment you touched my cheek to your last kiss - you put me, and then our girls, on a pedestal and gave every last measure of love and devotion to us.  For all your intelligence, wit, caring and protection within, you gave your gifts of help and aid in the shadows - people never will know all the situations you made a difference or the disasters you prevented.  Jeff Zusman - pilot, sailor, cadet police officer, paramedic, automotive innovator, mechanical engineer, drummer, songwriter, father, son, brother, friend, lover, my champion, and in death, life giver to four other souls with the gift of life.  We were proud and honored to share this life journey with you.  Fair winds, Safe harbor on your next leg - goodby and we'll see you again.

My girls and I are beyond shocked, but we must carry on.  We could not afford life insurance, so we must have my beloved cremated and we would like to have a celebration of his life.  I must be both mother and father now and humbly ask for your financial assistance to cover these expenses.  Jeff and I had talked about starting a college fund, so anything over the amount will go to that.

Thank you for your kindness and may God bless you for your generosity in our time of need.

Gratefully,
Lorry, Caitlin and Daphne

P.S. Please see my update.  I'm hoping those who knew Jeff will share stories so I can compile a book for my girls so as they continue to grow, they will know the man their father was.  Thank you.
