Help Rowan (fka Rosie*) Go to Grad School!
Hello darling friends and family! After 5 years of nannying, dancing, and organizing in NYC, I have decided to obtain a professional degree in a field I am very drawn towards: social work! I begin my masters at Hunter College's Silberman School of Social Work this Fall 2021.
I am fundraising for support towards my living and school expenses that cannot be covered by loans or the lack of full employment. I will be in school full-time with an unpaid field placement internship, and intend to work part time if possible. This money will help me prioritize my schoolwork so I can achieve my goal of graduating in 2 years.
I am super excited to begin this next chapter of my life. I have loved working with kids in many roles (caregiver/nanny primarily in NYC, developmental aide at Pasadena City College's Child Development Center, and advocate with Florida's Juvenile Justice Association), and am passionate about practices of harm reduction and community care, participating in multiple activist organizations in New York City (in tenants' rights advocacy, immigration rights, trans rights, mutual aid development, and others). Obtaining my MSW will nurture my interests further, and will train me in the professional practice of providing direct services within our present systems of care.
Lastly - trying to keep this short & sweet - thank you so so much. I am *so* lucky to have a community where I feel safe and able to even ask of assistance in my education and future. So much love to you all.
(*my name is now Rowan - a tree in the Rose family - & I like every pronoun, because I am pro-noun) :)
