Lee's Top Surgery Fund!

Hi, my name is Lee and I am getting top surgery!! I am a trans, non-binary person living in St. John's, NL and for the past few years I have been working to better understand my gender identity after a lifetime of having a complicated relationship with my body and my expression. I have decided it is time to make some positive changes that will help me live more authentically as myself and more in line with my identity. I have been in talks with my primary care provider for the past year and a half, and have finally received the news that I am approved to receive coverage through NL's provincial healthcare plan for top surgery!

In NL, many gender-affirming surgeries, like top surgery, are performed out of province. This means that I will have to travel to Moncton, NB, to receive my surgery with Dr. Jayson Dool. Dr. Dool has extensive experience performing chest masculinizing surgeries for trans and non-binary individuals and has an excellent practice based out of Moncton. Additionally, there are some parts of the surgery that are necessary for my body, but which are not covered by NL's provincial health plan which I will have to pay out-of-pocket.

I have set my goal to cover the travel costs as well as the out-of-pocket surgery costs, but I am hoping to save as much of my own money between now and my surgery date in about 4-6 months. After my surgery, if there are any funds left over, or if I get reimbursed through provincial healthcare grants, I will donate any extra money to another trans individual who needs help paying for their gender affirming surgery.

An estimated cost breakdown based on others' experiences getting this surgery while living in NL (travel costs are for myself and a travel companion):

Flights to Moncton: $2000

Accommodations (for four days): $500

Rental car: $500

Surgery Fees: $3500
