Help Obie walk again!
When we took our little Obie on his daily walk Tuesday, we never imagined it might be his last. After receiving a rough crash tackle greeting from one of his canine peers, causing him to yelp loudly, he indicated he wanted to go straight home.
Later that evening, we noticed that Obie was not himself, so we checked him over, but initially found nothing.
The next day however, Obie still was not himself, and would not walk up the step in our sunken living room. We took him to our local vet, Sydney Animal Hospital in Newtown. The vet checked him over and did find a painful spot along his spine, so sent us home with some pain relief, anti inflammatories and told us to keep a close eye on him.
The following day, Obie began staggering and could not take more than a few steps without his little hind legs faltering under him. We rushed him straight back to the vet who confirmed he has a compressed disc in his spinal cord, and without surgical treatment, he would certianly deteriorate to the point where he would become paraplegic.
After a very stressful overnight stay at the vet, we found a specialist orthopaedic vet surgeon who can operate on him on Monday, for a fee of $4,000. At this stage, we have already spent $800 just for this prognosis.
Without this expensive surgery, Obie will lose function of his legs and bladder etc, therefore reducing his quality of life. He is healthy in every other way, and has not yet completely lost feeling in his legs, so the surgical outcome looks very positive.
We will make whatever sacrifices we need to to get him this surgery so that Obie, our dear family member, can walk again. We dont have pet insurance (we cant even afford health insurance for ourselves!) and have some debt and almost no savings. So, we humbly ask for any contribution you can make to helping us help Obie. I know everyone has struggles of their own, and we dont expect people who cant afford it to feel obligated, but our gratitude will be endless and eternal.
