Hi, my name is Kris Lewelling, and I’m fundraising for my partner Hailey — someone I love deeply and who has shown incredible strength through unimaginable challenges.
Hailey’s story is one of survival, determination, and resilience. She overcame addiction, got clean and sober, and has now been in recovery for years. As a single mother to a child with type 1 diabetes, she put herself through school, got her own place, and built a stable life. When she gained weight after getting healthy, she decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery in 2021, hoping it would improve her life even more.
Unfortunately, the surgery had the opposite effect.
Since the procedure, Hailey’s health has rapidly declined. She now suffers from debilitating symptoms including:
• Chronic upper abdominal pain
• Severe fatigue
• Dizziness and “out of it” spells
• Malabsorption and nutrient deficiencies
• Tingling and numbness
• Muscle weakness
• Blood sugar crashes and spikes
• Brain fog
• Neurological symptoms that make it difficult to function
She had to leave her job at Family Care Network because she could no longer safely drive or maintain daily tasks. Despite seeing countless doctors — in neurology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, cardiology, integrative medicine — and traveling as far as UCLA and Santa Barbara, she still doesn’t have the answers she needs. Many specialists don’t understand the long-term complications that can come from gastric bypass surgery, especially when it affects the nervous system, nutrient absorption, and metabolic function.
But finally, we found a doctor out of state who specializes in these exact complications and has helped others in Hailey’s situation. He does in-depth testing and develops individualized plans to restore nutrient balance, gut function, and metabolic health — something no other doctor has offered.
The problem is, this care is not covered by insurance. The full cost is $5,200, which includes multiple comprehensive lab panels, consults, and ongoing support that Hailey urgently needs to try and get her life back.
Hailey has remained clean and sober through all of this. She’s never stopped fighting to raise her daughter and get well. But we can’t do this alone. If you feel moved to help, please consider donating — no amount is too small. And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this with others who might.
Thank you for reading, and for supporting someone who has given her all just to survive.
With gratitude,
Kris Lewelling
