Ventu Park Peacock was shot! Support his recovery
Donation protected
Tango, Kevin, Romeo, Clem Kadiddlehopper, Pete, Elmer, Larry - no matter what you call him, he's been a beloved member of our Ventu Park community for years.
It is with a heavy heart that we are letting you know he was brutally attacked and shot 3 times (with 2 lead pellets and 1 copper BB) sometime between the hours of 8AM - 5PM on Sunday, October 30th (Halloween Eve). He was missing for 2 days and discovered with an injured wing on Tuesday November 1st. He was taken to a local avian veterinary specialist the next morning and put on pain meds + antibiotics to begin his rehabilitation process. X-Rays showed that one of the pellets fractured his collarbone, leaving him unable to fly.
He is recovering slowly, but it is still unclear whether he will ultimately make a full recovery and be able to return to the "wild".
He didn't come back to his tree that Sunday night - did you happen to see him anytime the day before Halloween? Did you happen to take a photo of him? Hear or see anything out of the ordinary? Have you heard anything that might have sounded like gunshots anywhere in the area? We are trying to reconstruct a timeline of events for Sunday, October 30th.
We are offering $1000 reward for information leading to the successful prosecution of the person or persons responsible for this attack.
Please contact Sgt. Natoli at the Ventura County Sheriff's Department with any information at:
eight zero five - four nine four - eight two one four
All funds will be used to cover the medical and rehabilitation costs while he is recovering. The funds for the reward have been privately donated, but any excess funds remaining after all treatment and medical costs have been covered will reimburse those parties. Any additional funds will be donated to a local animal rescue organization. We know he appreciates all of your good wishes for a speedy recovery!
